10 Pandemic-friendly, family-friendly fall activities

It’s that time of year again...The air is getting colder, the leaves are changing colors, and all mugs should be filled with hot apple cider. That’s right: fall has arrived!

I honestly hope you didn’t think the pandemic would stop this beautiful season from happening. Yes, of course the Covid-19 Pandemic is still a thing, but everyone can still safely enjoy fall activities during Covid!

A mental health therapist named Hsuan Hsuan Dai expresses the importance of keeping up with fall traditions during these trying times. She believes that maintaining some type of normalcy after experiencing so much loss can give people a sense of purpose and meaning.

Celebrate and enjoy Fall-themed activities with family members and friends but remember to stay safe! Here are 10 Fall-themed safe activities you can do during the pandemic.

1. Go For a Drive or Hike

This time of year is absolutely beautiful. Take the time to hop in your car and experience all of the color changes. Or find some local areas to hike. The colorful leaves and crisp air will make this activity breathtaking!

2. Watch a Scary Movie

Scary movies are a staple during this season. I know Michael Myers loves this time of year!!

Although movie theaters have started opening back up, watching a scary movie at home with family is the safest option.

3. Go Apple Picking

Many cities have self-picking farms. Spend time with family and friends outdoors apple picking while maintaining a safe distance from others.

4. Fall Festivals

Check out local festivals in your area. These festivals will be outdoors and allow for social distancing. Hay rides, corn mazes, and pumpkin picking, visiting haunted houses, scavenger haunt are some fun things to do while at the festival. While having fun, keep in mind that social distancing, wearing a mask, and using hand sanitizer must all be observed.

5. Make a Large Pot of Chili or Soup

The cooler weather calls for some chili or soup. Try a new recipe and invite family and friends over to try it!

6. Have a Bonfire

What is better than a fall chilly night and a bonfire? NOTHING!!!

Gather up your friends and sit around the fire. This outdoor activity is safe and tons of fun. Plan to roast marshmallows and drink hot apple cider!

7. Preserve the Fall Leaves

Crafting is always a great activity no matter the time of year. Gather up the most beautiful leaves and press them in wax paper.

8. Gravestone Rubbing

This might sound a spooky activity but it’s very fun! Head to the nearest cemetery and find the oldest headstone. Take a piece of paper and place it up against the headstone. Using a pencil, color over the paper to make the words and dates appear.

9. Throw a Tailgate Party and Watch Football

Even if you don’t enjoy football, throwing a tailgate party for friends and family could be really fun. Make your favorite snacks/appetizers and a Fall-themed cocktail to share!

10. Go Camping

Another fall inspired activity family can do is camping. It is a perfect way to enjoy the Fall weather and social distance from others. Pack your favorite camping food, a tent, some firewood, and hit the road! You may enjoy the fresh cold air and fall foliage while heading to your camp site. Do scavenger hunt with the kids or invite your friends at the end of the day to sit around a fire and enjoy the outdoors!

There are so many different activities you can do safely while still enjoying Fall-themed activities. The pandemic doesn’t have to stop us from doing what we love but staying healthy and safe is so important right now!
